Frequently Asked Questions
You have questions; we have answers!
Of course, we realize that you may have more questions than we cover here, so please feel free to email us at info@myhealthunlimited.com and we will attempt to fill in the blanks for you.
Thank You!
What types of memberships are available at Health Unlimited?
You have a variety of membership options including Individual, Couple, Parent/child (child age 3-11), Family, Senior and Student memberships. Visit our Membership Information page for additional information, contact one of our friendly staff members or come by the club for a visit.
How old do my children have to be to utilize the exercise equipment?
Children must be 12 years of age to utilize cardio and weight stack equipment (located in carpeted areas), The Circuit and Group Fitness classes. Youth must be 14 to use the free weight equipment on the black mats.
How will I pay my dues at the club?
You’ll make your monthly payments via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from a checking or saving account or via credit card. This very common method of monthly payments basically sends a message to your bank requesting they transfer the dues amount on or about the 2nd of each month.
Does my membership have a set term or length of commitment?
Initially, your membership is for one year, plus a pro-rated remainder of the month in which you enroll, after which time you go to a month-to-month agreement, cancelable with written notice by the 20th of the preceding month (written notice includes e-mail to jrich@myhealthunlimited.com or info@myhealthunlimited.com – you should receive a response to confirm).
Can I pay my dues in some other manner other than EFT?
We are a “bonded” facility, having met all necessary requirements of the State’s Attorney’s office for securing a bond to protect members’ money. With this status, we are able to accept a full year’s payment up front, if you so choose. In that case, you would sign annual renewals each year as opposed to going month-to-month.
If I have an individual or couple membership, can I still get member rates on swim lessons for my children?
Only children under a family or parent/child membership are eligible for member rates on swim lessons. You would, also, need to pay a daily visitor fee for any children over the age of three for other activities (such as open family swim times). The best value is to cover all members of your family under a membership.
My spouse and I have three children ages 1, 3, and 7. Do I need to pay monthly dues for each child?
Children under the age of three will not be counted as members for the purpose of determining monthly dues, however, they will have full use of the facilities. Your membership, then, would be as a family of four and cost $129 per month. It would increase by $10 when the youngest turns three.
What activities/areas of the club are available with a Family membership?
Our club is designed to appeal to everyone in your family. Open swim in the pools, play time in The Yard, basketball in the gymnasium and, depending on the age of your children, access to our state-of-the-art Circuit are all available to youth and adult members.
Is there babysitting available for my children while I exercise?
Yes. Our Kids Club (for children 6 weeks to 8 years) is staffed most times of the day for this purpose. Click HERE for the latest schedule and more Kids’ Club information!
What is “The Yard”?
The Yard is an area dedicated to youth ages 7-13 (or age 6 and out of 1st grade) filled with interactive games and activities that will keep them moving and having fun at the same time. Games like Tapwall, Expresso Virtual Reality Bike, Wii, and Sportwall combine with classic basketball and 4-square courts to make this a place your children will want to return to again and again (and check out our Yard birthday parties!). Membership is required for access to The Yard. Find out more information by visiting The Yard Page.
Is there someone to show me how the equipment works and help me get started?
Yes. You receive two free equipment orientation sessions with a fitness professional to outline a program and learn proper use of equipment. We want you to see results and feel comfortable using our equipment and interacting with our staff. We also have staff monitoring the fitness area to offer you assistance and answer questions. If you have a question or need a reminder, feel free to ask a staff member – we’re here to help!
Can I buy a pool only membership?
Your membership is for full use of all club facilities.
Can I bring guests to the club?
Guests can pay a daily visitor fee for full use of the club. Discount guest pass books are also available for more frequent guest use.
Are towels available?
We ask that all members use a workout towel to protect the equipment and extend proper courtesy to other exercisers. We have inexpensive workout towels and bath/pool towels for sale at the front desk or you may bring your own from home.
Are you open every day?
Almost. We are closed on two holidays – Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. We also close for a day in mid-August for annual facility maintenance and repair work. We close the pools for a few days around this time to drain, clean and refill them with sparkling, fresh water – a pleasure for our swimmers! Occasionally, we may need to shut down for more days when we are undergoing more significant upgrades or repairs but these times are rare.
How do I know if classes will be held during inclement weather and/or if the club is open?
You will find out via our e-newsletter and through our Facebook pages (along with posts on our website and messages on our phones). For our weekday morning aerobics and swim lesson classes, we follow the Carroll County school system during inclement weather. If schools are delayed or closed, there will be NO morning aerobics classes before 11:00am. Afternoon and evening classes (as well as weekend classes) will be judged on case-by-case basis; please call ahead to verify that classes are being held.
We do our best to keep the club open as long as possible during inclement weather – we don’t like to close. We may make adjustments to minimize our staffing needs (e.g. close Kids Club, cancel aerobics classes, etc.) on these days. Of course, we want to keep the safety of our members and staff in mind and will close the entire facility if necessary. Please call ahead if you are unsure.
What constitutes a family membership?
As an adult, you may have you, your spouse, and your dependent children on a family membership, as long as the children are still in school or in college full-time. You may not include your brothers/sisters, grandparents or children who have moved out. A basic family membership covers 3-4 people, each person over that is an additional $10 a month.
Is there a discount for seniors?
Yes, we have a senior discount for those over 62+ years of age.
How do I cancel my membership?
Once you have completed your initial 12 month membership term, you automatically roll into a month-to-month status, meaning that, with sufficient notice, you may cancel your membership at any time for any reason. While many organizations require 30 days notification for cancellation, we simply need to know by the 20th of the month prior to the month you wish to cease your membership. In other words, if you wish to make August your last month with us and cancel your membership effective September 1st, we would need to know by August 20th.
We have a cancellation form at the front desk that we ask to be completed in order to have written verification of the cancellation. You may also e-mail (jrich@myhealthunlimited.com) or fax us (301-829-4236) written notification as well. Again, we must receive these cancellations by the 20th of the month.
What if, after I’ve been a member a while, my spouse or children wish to be added to my membership?
You may upgrade or downgrade your membership at anytime during your membership. In this case, you would simply complete our “Upgrade form” and have your additional family members complete the necessary Member Profile/Health History Questionnaires that all new members complete. There is a $15 administrative charge for any change in membership classification and we will supply new membership cards to your family members as soon as we have them entered into our database.
